Niklas Taanila is an award-winning choir director, singer and music teacher from Turku. He has worked as an artistic director for several different choirs in Jyväskylä and the Tampere area. He has been a singer of the Tampere Capella and several choir vocal groups in professional productions. Taanila has received the Matti Hyökki choral conductor prize November 2021.
For Taanila, the time at the Kärsämäki residency was spent making art, reading, writing, taking saunas, skiing and long walks, as well as a lot of thinking. For Taanila, the historical environment in the countryside gave space for thoughts and making new art.
