The private ARTBREAK artist residency offers international art professionals the Basecamp residency program. In the program, you can research and familiarize yourself with northern nature, history and culture for 1-2 months and network with art professionals in northern Finland. During the residency, there is also the opportunity to go on a guided nature trip and learn about northern environmental issues and livelihoods that depend on nature.

The shorter, approximately one-week-long Exploring Art in the North visiting program is aimed at curators and art professionals. The goal of the customized visit program is effective networking and the creation of new joint projects with art organizations and artists in the north of Finland.

ARTBREAK artist residency is run by a curator-visual artist couple, in cooperation with WARIA and a wide regional and international network.

The premises of the residence include a 43 m2 apartment (2h+minikitchen+bathroom+toilet) and a 16 m2 study.

We can host 2 artists or a pair of artists at the same time. Applicants from all different fields of art are accepted.

Possibility to use the sculptor’s workspace (50 m2) and tools, which can be agreed upon separately.

Basecamp residency program: The monthly rent is 750€, which includes electricity and water and wireless wifi.

Exploring Art in the North residency program: pricing is based on a program tailored to the participant

A booking fee of 100€ will be charged after the confirmation of the residency period. The booking fee will be compensated in the rent but not refunded if the residency period is canceled.

The participants are selected on a project-by-project basis. In the selection, we emphasize the motivation and connection to the northern culture and environmental research in the applicant’s personal project. Recommendations given to the applicant by international partners are also considered an advantage.

Co-operation with KulttuuriKauppila in the artistic projects, in order to ensure pleasant and rewarding residency visits.

KulttuuriKauppila residencies offer artists time and space to focus on their artistic practice and research in a close-to-nature facility. Although the artists’ own work and projects are at the core of the programme, we hope that our guests will share their expertise and experience through an event in collaboration with the KulttuuriKauppila team (a maximum of one event/month).
